General Certificate of Education – ‘O’ Levels
English | Mathematics | Physics | Chemistry | Biology | Geography | Engineering Drawing | French
A fifth-former Prefect and showed a strong aptitude for mathematics, taking my ‘O’ level at the end of the fourth year and getting an ‘A’. Spent most of my fifth year maths sessions playing football, only because the school didn’t have the facility to cater for ‘A’ level preparation. My maths teacher, Mr. Nelson, was one of the best teachers I have ever met .. just the right balance of humour and hard work. Getting 99% in my mock ‘O’ level prompted him to record on my school report “Could’ve done better!”. I actually wanted to do Art not French, but my bloody parents wouldn’t let me, quoting “it’s a wishy-washy subject that won’t lead to a job, whereas French is much more useful” … not entirely accurate but then it did enable me to get acquainted with French wine labels, so in one way, they did have a point!
